Macadamia nuts are also grown.

Because of Bundaberg’s high rate of unemployment, Bundaberg has been referred to as the “dole capital of Australia”.

Tourism is an important industry in Bundaberg, and Bundaberg is known as the ‘Southern Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef’. Bundaberg lies near the southern end of the reef in proximity to Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave Islands.

Moore Park Beach, to Bundaberg’s north, has 20 kilometres (12 mi) of golden sandy beach.
